i have a 1989 dodge dakota i have changed everthing and still no press to back brakes also i can bleed the front brakes fine but the back brakes with the brake pedal down and then i open the bleeder screw and the pedal still wont hit the floor or go down at all please help
sure the proportioning valve could reason this concern. There are some bought after industry i'm uncertain approximately yours. We purely placed one in a jeep out of the junk backyard and it fixed the concern. the two they artwork or they do no longer
Did you bleed the brakes in this sequence, RR, LR, RF, LF, if so and you still have air in the system try a gravity bleed, this will sometimes center an off center proportioning valve.
If you have already bled the front brakes, it is normal that the pedal will not hit the floor when you bleed the rear brakes. When you bleed the back brakes all you are wanting to do is to bleed all the air out of the lines and the rear wheel cylinders , not necessarily to make the pedal to hit the floor. Normally when you hit your brakes when driving your front brakes will take hold first then the rear but the rear will not fully engage untill you really press hard on the pedal.
the proportioning valve may be off center on it if it is there hard to get back on center ,try opening a bleeder and hitting the brakes one time with the bleeder open for the front brakes this may re-center it,i have used this method a few times and it works sometimes but run the front line in to a jar with hose so brake fluid doesn't squirt all over the place,if that doesn't work you may have bent line on it or a bad proportioning valve, good luck.have a good thanksgiving.
