Question:

1990 735i W/M30 Valve noise?

I have adjusted the valve clearance twice, I still have a noise on the #2 cylinder intake. What might be causing this?

Answer:

valve adjustment was not done properly or too much cam wear. These M30 engines are difficult to valve adjust. I would take it to dealer - the adjustment must be done with engine cold.
Assuming that you have adjusted the valve clearance properly, there are still a few other things that can cause valve noise: a) cam lobe wear as already mentioned, b) valve sleeve/guide wear c) wornout/necked valve stem d) wornout rocker arm (lobe or sleeve) e) wornout rocker arm shaft f) weak valve springs
