My 2002 Honda Civic was recently in an accident and totaled. It was a great car and never had one single problem with it. I am looking at getting another, but have heard that 2001s have had transmission problems. How prevalent are these problems?
Lots of Civics, and Hondas in general, have this problem you heard of. It isnt anything serious. Its just some slight notchiness going into second and third gear. It doesnt always happen, mostly when the car isnt completely warmed up. If you get a really good after market transmission fluid it can help a lot. I used Amsoil and it almost eliminated it completely. So it isnt a very serious issue, doesnt affect all Civics, and shouldnt hinder you from buying one. Good luck.
If you're asking about the automatic transmission then the answer is that the Civic transmission is bulletproof. There have never been any issues with the Civic automatic transmission. Nor with the Civic manual transmission for that matter. the issues with the 2000-2001 Honda transmissions were with the model that was used on the Accord and Odyssey models. That is a different transmission entirely. On those models the failure rate was high enough to be concerned about. Honda did extend the warranty on the automatic transmissions on those models for those model years because of the problem. There is no need to be concerned about the transmission on any year Civic provided, as with all cars, that the vehicle was maintained. hope that ansers your question
