My first instinct tells me master cylinder but let me explain, I have a 2001 Silverado 4x4, my brakes haven‘t been up to par in a while, the pedal has felt a little spongy for over a year. During the summer, i was coming to a stop and the brake pedal went right to the floor, then came right back. It did not happen again until today right after I started it. I do not have any visible leaks, no brake or ABS lights on, what the heck could cause it?
Go to Wal-Mart and buy some Brasso. It is sold in the Chemical section
Triple Zero Steel Wool, and a lot of rubbing will do the trick. Try a small corner spot first but this should do it.
Yeah, so during the brake pedal just go the floor. I guess going the floor's simply the way thing flow
Check your brake fluid level. If the reservoir is still full, then you can eliminate an external leak. The fluid cannot be compressed, so unless there is a gross amount of air entrained in the system, the fluid is probably passing past the seals on the piston inside of the master cylinder. (Then possibly the seal resets and you have brakes again) The other less likely cause is an undetected failure in the ABS unit. The ABS is supposed to release small amounts of fluid during hard braking when wheel slippage is detected. It is possible that it is constantly bypassing fluid. Either way, you need to drive any car with the same addadge I live by: THE BRAKE SYSTEM ON ANY CAR IS THE MOST IMPORTANT SYSTEM ON THE ENTIRE VEHICLE ! ! ! You can make a car go as fast you want, but; if the brakes dont work properly why drive the car? If the brakes are not functioning properly, You are putting more than yourself at risk! (THINK ABOUT IT)
Wire wool dipped in Brasso, polish in circular motion.
