My Father-in-law has a 1992 Honda Accord EX. After about 10-20 minutes of driving the brakes pressurize and stop the car on their own. The pads and master cylinder were changed within the last year. The Brakes were bled properly also. Could it be the ABS pump? Modulator? Brake booster? I need help fast. Thanks for the help, Ryan btw- the only way to get the brakes to release is to open a bleeder valve.
it shouldn't be the ABS pump; that only runs on self-check; if the ABS pump doesn't work the brake system will operate like a normal non-ABS car. I think your rear brakes are adjusted way too tight and that when the linings heat up the brakes expand and lock. The rear brakes are drum brakes and the self adjusters may be cranked too tight. The other thing you want to look for is a kink in one of the brake lines. I don't know from your description if all of the brakes are locking, or just the rear or the front. there is usually one line to the rear and two for the front. if a line is bent or kinked or dented then the fluid will be pushed through under the force of applying the brake pedal but when the brake is released the spring pressure for the shoes may not be enough to return the fluid to the master cylidner so over time you will lock the brakes. those are the two most likely causes. there is also the possibility that the piston in the master cylinder isn't returning or that the compensating port is clogged. but if you changed the master within the last year I would probably rule that out. hope that helps
