Question:

Alarm Problem On Mitsubishi Spyder eclipse 99?

My sisters eclipse has had an alarm problem for quite some time. Whenever we lock the doors with the power lock system or sometimes just at random the car alarm will be armed. The only way we can deactivate the alarm is unplugging the battery under the hood. Is there a fuse or some way we can completely deactivate the alarm system from coming on. We don't have a key-less entry remote although we use to, and when we did it did not help the problem. We still had to unplug the battery to disengage the alarm. If anyone knows what is up with this or could help us stop this from happening it would be greatly appreciated. We are trying to sell the car and this is the only problem with it and would really help in selling if we didn't have to tell them not to use the power locks and that they might have to unplug the battery from time to time. Thanks!

Answer:

No. You should be able to run it steady for about 2-3 minutes. The fog clears VERY quickly so make sure to run it for a long time (2 minute minimum)
Yes, it will set off the fire alarms. I've worked with fog effects in theaters and churches and I know for a fact that it will set them off. Optical alarms use a chamber that has a focused ray of light passing through it. When any type of smoke enters the chamber, its causes the light to scatter and triggers the alarm. So it wouldn't take much to set it off. Low lying fog on the other hand is a totally different deal. I you use a low lying fog machine with fast dissipating fog fluid, then the fog would stay on the ground and would dissipate before it got hot enough to rise to the smoke detector. Btw, DJ is wrong about standard fluid dissipating quickly. The bulk of the fog will dissipate quickly, but a haze will remain that could still affect the smoke alarm. Hope this helps. Go Tigers.
a shopping spree on 5th ave followed by a long snuggle with my honey!
