Hi I am going to buy a dodge charger and I want to buy the all wheel drive oneAnd I want to know the difference between 4 wheel and all wheeland which one is betterI live in reno nevada and around december through around march is gets kinda snowy not that much maybe about 3 inches and the roads and they get icy and slipperyIn my case would 4 wheel drive or all wheel drive be better
All wheel drive you cannot turn off (without modifications) and four wheel drive you can. All wheel drive is generall better as it can be operated all the time where as some part time 4x4 systems cant be run on dryish roads(the system is designed to and NEEDS to be able to slip). Both systems will work equally as well, AWD is more intellignet usually so it might offer more advanced features that are completely computerized.
awd is a complex system that automatically varies the torque to all four wheels without driver input so basically all 4 wheels are being driven all the time where as 4 wheel drive normally drives only the rear axle until you engage the front wheels when needed on slippery surfaces most cars like the charger subarus etc are awd pickups and most suvs are 4wd

IN 4 WHEEL YOU GENERALLY USE 2 DRIVE WHEELS POWERED BY THE TRANS. TO ENGAGE THE OTHER WHEELS TO MAKE THEM PULL YOU NEED TO SPLIT THE POWER FROM THE TRANS. WITH A TRANSFER CASE. IN ALL WHEEL THERE IS A CENTER DIFFERENTIAL THAT AUTOMATICALLY ENGAGES THE OTHER WHEELS THAT AREN'T PULLING IF THE WHEELS START TO SLIP (AS ON SNOW OR ICE OR EVEN WET ROADS) I WOULD SAY THAT ALL WHEEL DRIVE WOULD WORK BEST FOR YOU DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE CAR AUTOMATICALLY MOVES THE POWER FROM WHEEL TO WHEEL IF THERE IS SLIPPING AND SLIDING. IN 4 WHEEL YOU WOULD NEED TO ENGAGE THE OTHER WHEELS MANUALLY.
