ok.the alpaca fiber i bought is completely soft.prime blanket.but when I spin it with my spindle, and knit it.the scarf is itchy.but regular yarn which is wool which is supposed to be itchy, the regular yarn is less itchy than the alpaca.is it because I spin it in a bulky and fuzzy type of yarn?? I wanted alpaca to have super soft yarn.i bought some 50% baby camel and 50% angora and even though she spun it with a spinning wheel.its super soft.so why as soft as alpaca is, is it itching me??? what am i doing wrong.
this is something you really need to discuss with the owner of the house.
Alpaca does have some, although not a great deal, of guard hair that should be removedI say some, because the percentage is small and it tends to be soft as wellIt is possible you have spun it too tightly, though, or have not washed it prior to spinning it, so that you are reacting to both the overtwist and the grit in itI've spun alpaca, though, and even spun tightly, it has been soft in the useI would suggest that you may want to wash your fiber, carefully, before spinning it, put as little twist as necessary to have it hold together, and then set your twist in warm water before knitting with it and see if this helps.
