anti lock and brake light on dash keeps coming on and off when i drive but not all the time i have had it checked out and they can‘t find anything wrong with it does any one have any ideas
The light means that the car's computer has detected a fault with the anti lock brake system and has disabled the system. While the light is on you have no anti lock brakes. You still have brakes, just no anti lock brakes. Whenever there is a fault detected the computer will disable the system. For example let's say that a wheel speed sensor is failing. You would not want anti lock brakes on only 3 of the 4 wheels. In a panic stop the anti lock brakes would throw your car completely out of control. I am surprised your mechanic can't find out what is wrong. Even with an intermittent problem with the anti lock brake system the computer should be storing a trouble code each time the light comes on. The mechanic should be able to extract the code(s) which will give clues to the cause of the light. One of the professional diagnostic tools connected you your car's diagnostic port will tell the mechanic exactly what the anti lock brake system is doing at any given time. Personally, I would try a different mechanic next time the light comes on. About 90% of the time when the anti lock light comes on there is a problem with a wheel speed sensor. Each wheel has a speed sensor. The anti lock brake system continuously monitors the speed of each wheel when the brakes are applied. If the speed of one or more wheels slows more than the others the computer interprets this as the tire skidding and pulses the brake on that wheel to bring it to the speed of the other wheels. If the computer detects bogus values coming from one of these wheel speed sensors it will disable the anti lock brake system, illuminate the anti lock light on the instrument panel, and store a trouble code in the computer.
The ABS easy should not be on under time-honored circumstances, it is going to in undemanding terms come on while there's a topic with in the ABS, undergo in innovations that this does not point out a topic with brake pads, brake traces, brake fluid ( or the brake easy itself might come on) or different areas of the vehicle. i might take the vehicle to a tech midsection and function it regarded at, if for no longer the rest piece of innovations there is not any substitution for cover!!!
Go to the dealer and have them diagnose the problem with the factory Mutt II or III. It's bound to be a wheel speed sensor that has not failed completely. They need to road test it and check each wheel speed reading.
