Black is the most effective background for most suspended effects coatings. Mirrors are a black background with the reflective material in front of that - look at the back of one, it won't be silver or white, and the coatings are surprisingly thin. Reflective finishes demand very fair surfaces, so it is excellent that you know all about that, and you should be well on the way to a stunning effect finish. You can combine the effect material with the background coats - but only the very top layer will reflect so the effect is reduced. If you apply as the manufacturer instructs, the result will be the best. If you are very knowledgeable and highly experienced you might use alternative application methods and techniques but this is generally not a good idea unless you really know what you are doing.
