Question:

Are sofa beds or futon bed worth the money?

Okay I'm in need of a new bed. I'm look for something different but that lasts for years just like a mattress does. I hear that sofa beds are garbage!---What is your input? Also, are they comfortable too?

Answer:

its a fad. nice but not long lasting.
I would go with a twin bed.. A futon and sofa bed are all right for occasional sleeping but terrible if you have to use them all the time.
Ive never slept on a sofa bed that i thought was comfortable. For awhile as a teenager i didnt have a bed, so i had to sleep on our love seat that pulled out into a twin size bed, at first i thought it would be really cool, cuz it saved so much space in my room. But it was far from comfortable, even when the mattress was brand new. It was actually more comfortable to sleep on it folded up. not to mention the effort it took to pull it out and fold it back up. I have slept on a few futons, some are really crappy and you can feel the bars. But my grandma has one in her guest room that is actually really nice. im sure it was a little more expensive than most tho. It has wood slats under it instead of bars, and the mattress is really thick. I love sleeping on it. But there not as soft as a mattress, If you like a super firm mattress you might like it, some people prefer them. If you spend the money on a nice futon it might be worth it.
Well, sofa beds aren't really meant for everyday use, it's pretty much only for guests. If you have room, you might try a water bed, as long as you keep pointy things away from it and are able to hook up a water hose to a convenient place. Air beds aren't much different from mattresses, and when I tried one, it lasted maybe a year before getting a leak somewhere and had to be re inflated every day. Futons are fairly flat, so if you like a lot of cush, they may not do it for you, though they do save space, thus the use of them in Japan.
