Question:

are soffit vents required in an attic?

For a 1,500 sq foot attic, are 2 power vents and 6 passive vents sufficient or must I have soffit vents as well? I live in NJ.

Answer:

Your bike already has a voltage regulator, it's just that it's a 6V one not a 12VIf you can find a 12V regulator to fit, then you can convert itYou will have to get new bulbs (of course) and also a new flasher unit (if it still has its indicators)It won't fry the coil - just the oppositeA 6V coil handles twice the amperage of a 12V one, so unless you get a 12V coil your spark won't be strong enough to run the motorDitto for a new condenserA cheaper solution, if the lights are the only thing you're worried about, is to get a relay for the light, so that it always receives its max 6V and doesn't have to share it aroundAlso, make sure the contacts for everything to do with the headlight are clean and corrosion-free.
your ignition circuit and your lighting circuit are two stand alone circuits, so no need to worry about the coilyour engine will run without a battery you will probably blow your bulbs but it won't damage the engineyou need the battery to add resistance and keep the voltage down when you rev the motorIt acts like a voltage dampner for your lights, horn, turn signals ectyour magneto probably has an open circuit voltage of 30v, but when you put a load on it, it drops to 7vodds are good that you will need to find a 12v stator coil or you can rewind yoursmore thinner wraps of wire equals higher voltageYou are looking for around 70v open circuitWhen you upgrade your components will need to add a modern regulator to replace the diode that came on your bikealso a 552 relay is what you want for your turn signals in 12vyour wiring harness will have no problem handling 12v and 60 watt headlightI switch all my bikes to 12v because of the headlight issue.
If it runs fine, why?!? If you want to get electronic ignition than 12V would be better, otherwise what's the point?
the best system is to have ridge vents the entire length of the roof along with soffit ventsThis allows the best air flowDon't forget to use insulation chutes to keep the air passge open from the soffit to the attic.
