Question:

Brake System Problem?

Ok, so my brakes have been and were working completely fine yesterday.I went to leave for work this evening and the pedal goes all the way to the floor. i checked the brake fluid and it was about half filled, so i bought some and filled it up. still sinks to the floor... i headed home pumping the brakes hoping it would solve the issue and when i got home(half mile away) i checked the fluid again and it was almost empty.so I'am googling the problem and it says ; Master Cylinder ; Calipers; ABS Valve; or a break in a linewhat i can't find is, that with it happening that fast with no warning signs, which is the most likely culprit?also it's raining like mad so i can't visually check for leaksI'am taking it to a shop tomorrow, but i'd like to know what I'am in forHELP PLEASE!!!

Answer:

Probably losing it in the booster through the master cyl. reason for the pedal to the floor problem
Well there is some where a leak I would check all my brake lines but it is raining so yea to the shop it is
if it's raining and you are driving with bad brakes and a brake fluid leak, STOP PLEASE!!!! A leak in the brake line is serious and you will cause serious injury to yourself or other people. It definitely is a brake fluid leak from somewhere. Do you have drum brakes in the rear? The wheel cylinders in the drum brakes tend to fail and cause a slow leak which can quickly change to a major catastrophic failure of the brake system. Jack the car up, take a rear wheel off, check behind the whole wheel system and look for fluid, do this on both sides. If none is found, check the master cylinder itself as it may have failed and started leaking out one of the lines.
Well you may have a leak some place in the system. I would fill up the master cylinder and have someone pump the pedal look for fluid around the lines the hoses the master cylinder calipers. Anywhere you see fluid then there is your leak you will need to repair or replace the part and then bleed the brakes.
Well if the pedal is sinking to the floor chances are eaither you have a leak in your Master Cylinder, or Your brake line is leaking and letting air into the brakeing system. It is VERY unlikley but i have seen it happen before, that the Calipers themself are leaking brake fluid. When you push the brake, the brake fluid travels through the line into the Caliper and the pistons in the calipers push out onto the pad and the pads push on the rotor whatch makes the car stop. It could be that the seals are worn out in the Calipers and leaking the fluid. Have you ever replaced the calipars? If not theres a good chance thats whats happening.
