Question:

Braking system?

I have a 91 toyota MR2 and when i press the brake, i really have to press it down to make it stop. not sensative at all unless im pushing far down on it. not really sure what it could be. brakes make no noise or screeching sound so i don't think its the pads or rotors. anybody have any ideas or know any links to websites that might help me out?

Answer:

Normally when the pedal goes to the the end, you can have two issues, air in the lines, and you should purge it, there are some cheap do you it self kit you can buy at any autoparts, or you can do it with the help of a second individual, the way to do it is as following, a individual siting at the cabin pumps the pedal several times, after several pumps the other person opens the purge valve that is in the caliper or in the brake cylinder, when the person opens the purge valve the person in the cockpit pushes the pedal to the end and live it there until the person close the valve, it is very important to get the desired result, that the person in the cockpit do not release the pedal until the purge valve is closed, this sequence should be done a few times in each wheel until no air goes out of the valve, after this you need to refill the brake fluid deposit. The other option is that the pump is not working at the 100%, and may have some internal damage that requires an overhaull or replacement.
bad master cylinder or power booster. Get it looked at ASAP.
hydraulics problem maybe, some of the brake liquid is out maybe
flush out all of the fluid in the lines and then replace with recomended amount
Possible Brake servo failure, have a mechanic check it out before you die from brake failure related causation.
