Question:

Broken bolt in brake system. Is there a way to fix?

The brake rotor on my car was stuck and in the process of taking off it off, the head of the bolt holding the brake system together, broke off. It was going to be $375 for them to fix it before the broken bolt and I can‘t afford that and the cost to repair the bolt right now. Is there anyway to get the bolt out without taking it to the garage?

Answer:

There are bolt extractor kits available that can help your get the bolt out. Go to you local auto parts store and ask about the extractor kit. You might also check out better hardware stores like ACE and Sears. Not sure of price, but it's got to be less than $375. You might also check out your local salvage yard. They might have your part on the shelf at a greatly reduced price. Either way, good luck.
If you can get to the back side there is enough of the bolt sticking out, you can soak it with penetrating oil try to turn it out with vice grips. Most likely, you will have to drill it out re-tap the threads or replace the part with the stuck bolt.
try drilling it out and then use a easy-out.i broke a bolt off once in a ford truck once and thats what i did, then just replace it with another bolt.if you happen to ruin the threads, then get a self tapping bolt,or try rethreading it with a tap and die tool.
