Question:

Can a vintage fire extinguisher be shipped in the mail?

I have an old (dry chemical) fire extinguisher from the 50's or 60's that I figured I'd try to sell on . It is full, and in mint condition with no holes or cracks. If someone happened to buy it, could it be shipped in the mail? Or would it be classified as a hazardous material and be rejected?

Answer:

I easily wish so. shop batteries in it. The construction is their investment so why wouldnt they choose for to insure that it and the tenants are risk-free? What are you attempting to conceal? are you able to no longer have the money for batteries to maintain your self and others risk-free??????????
I suggest you go to your breaker box and check the breakers or fuses. Smoke detectors typically last for years, and should generally always work. If you do not have a tripped breaker or a burnt fuse then I would call the local fire department and ask them for suggestions. Advice is free, and these guys are professionals. :) I think they will come check out your detectors for free or suggest someone who will do so inexpensively.
A beam of particles from a radioactive source, to a detector. The interuption of this beam by smoke - i.e. smoke gets between the source and the detector - causes a lower signal at the detector, which in turn causes the alarm to be triggered. That's why the alarm will sound if you put your finger between the source and the detector.
Replace the whole lot of them!! Rip one out and bring it to your local home supply and get all new ones. Detectors don't last forever and replacing them is cheap/easy. If you can't swap them yourself, hire a handyman to take care of it.
