I currently have HD DVR comcast tv service. I have a wireless internet within range of my place which is unsecured and works great for internet for my laptop, however the signal strength for my xbox 360 is spotty. I keep getting dropped from xbox live because of the wireless connection to the xbox. Computer works fine tho(maybe a little slow at times but manageable)My question is, can i buy a cable modem on cl or elsewhere and use it to split my tv service signal to the modem and get Internet that way.then connect xbox directly to modem/or wireless router.Anyoneplease help. I want to stream netflix and play online and this is super frustrating. I only have 2 bars on the xbox at best, which causes the issues. The computer usually at very good or excellent. Some of you may not agree with me piggy-backing on a wireless source, however it is like a free wireless hot spot. Also i am a student and realistically cannot afford comcast's cable after the 6 month service increase.Any ideas? Thanks in advance
You can contact Comcast and request info on the triple play service which is your landline, cable tv, and cable modem in one light service. However you may want to adjust it down the road to unlimited service if you have a family of gamers and thensome. However don't rule out other cable services such as cox or verizon who may have lower prices but services vary on quality.
NO! This would be cable theft. The real answer is that modems are activated by the cable company offices by giving them an internal address. The cable company then enables the modems address allowing it to get an IP address. If the modems internal address is not in the cable company's database, it will not get internet service.
You won't be able to just hook up a cable modem to your cable tv service and get internet access. Cable companies control who has access by registering mac addresses for paying customers so if you aren't paying for the service then you won't be registered and therefore can't connect to their service. As has been mentioned I would suggest you do some research to find a good supplier of internet service in your area Personally I don't consider comcast to be a good supplierintermittent service and lousy customer support.
