So quite often in cold weather, I drive my standard jetta car, and when I go to brake during early driving, they barely work, it feels like they‘re literally braking. If I could describe it so you can picture it, imagine driving a floor less car, and when you push the break pole it‘s grinding against the ground! It‘s like KRRRRR KERRRR KRUKKKKWhat‘s the deal?
Safety first. Have the vehicle brake system check out and repair by your repair shopMetal To Metal is the term we say when the material of the brake pads has wore out, bare metal part of the pads rubs against the rotor and create the sound you have described. That is why the braking won't stop the car
if the car isnt making any progress in stopping when you apply the brakes, then that could be a big problem. but the sound you decribed sounds like the ABS system activating. You'll hear that sound alot more when trying to apply brakes on ice.
As much as you have tried to describe the issue, irs still confusing to read. I will try to give you some interpretations, pick the one that best describes your situation: 1- Does the car actually stop when you press the brake pedal? If not, don't drive it, you have a serious problem! 2- is the road surface icy? You say this happens in cold weather, perhaps you are activating the ABS system. 3- The krunk krunk krunk sound could be the ABS pulsing. Do you feel a pulse like ffedback in the pedal? 4- have you considered getting this checked out by a qualified mechanic? It is a critical part of your car after all.
