Question:

Check engine light is on again due to leak in the fuel system, i need some help!?

My check engine light came on about a month ago, I took it to the shop and they told me it was due to a fuel system leak. They did a pressure smoke test and couldn‘t find any leaks. My light is back on and i took it to advance auto parts and they hooked it up and said the light was on due to a loose gas cap, so we cleared the code. I bought a new gas cap and now the light is back on. Should I take it back to the shop and spend more money to be told the same thing? Or is there something I can do for cheap, like a gas treatment?

Answer:

The gas cap must fit snugly and too many people leave the car running while they are adding fuel at the gas station. If you do that, you will repeatedly get fuel system faults anytime the engine is running and the cap is open.
Gas treatment won't do it. What was the code? BTW, NEVER take advice from auto parts store clerks. If they knew how to fix cars, they'd be fixing them and making a lot more money.
just a guess because don't no what kind of car but on fire wall is a purge vale for gas fumes to charcoal canister and to intake that will cause this problem
you may desire to be waiting to scrub it out. the difficulty is in simple terms approximately particularly the oil getting on the slip jewelry and brushes close to the back of the alternator. Spraying brake cleanser in there might desire to do the trick.
I will only add to look for a loose ground. The end of the battery negative cable etc.
