Chile was the top mine producer of copper with at least one-third world share followed by the USA, Indonesia and Peru, reports the British Geological Survey According to the second Wikipedia reference, the 10 highest producing countries in their order of production (in 2007) are :- Chile, Peru, USA, China, Australia, Indonesia, Russia, Canada, Zambia, Poland There is probably, contrary to what the 'Peak Copper' article states, a great deal of potential for increased copper production from Zambia & the Democratic Republic of Congo but this is expensive because of difficulties with transport from within these landlocked countries. Edit: 2009 figures put the order of the top 7 copper producers as Chile, Peru, USA, China, Indonesia, Australia, Russia. There is also a new copper mine coming on stream on Mongolia's southern border with China called 'Oyu Tolgoi'.
