Question:

Coronet instead of the Charger?

Does anyone agree with me on that the new Dodge Charger should have been called the Coronet, and then later released the Charger as a two door and redesign the front and back end. I say this because the Coronet came in a four door and the charger never did. Could they have saved themself of the embarassment of the new Charger. (The Challenger is going to be awesome however, they hit the nail on the head with that one)

Answer:

I agree with allot of the comments here, but it must be a new trend at Daimler / Chrysler because THEY DID IT AGAIN PEOPLE!. I just looked at the new 2007 Avenger, and they have done it again, 4 doors where the old one was 2. This car looks to me more like a Charger than the new Charger does. It should have the Hemi and be rear wheel drive, not front wheel and a diesel. Dodge why the Spoilers and ground effects for a diesel? Are they that intense of a performance vehicle that they would benefit from all of the down force to assist in high speed maneuvering? It's a diesel for Pete's sake.
I do not agree because the name Charger has a certain stigma attached to it. The Coronet was not an impressionable or lasting name. Chevy uses Impala, do you think the car would have done as well if they name it the Biscayne? The new Challenger is appropriately named.
what about the dodge coronet r/t, which was just as bad a muscle car as the charger. I don't like the styling of the new charger, it looks like any other sedan. but the new challenger is the best looking car i've seen in a long time.
Since that you've mentioned it I do have to agree with you on the fact that Dodge should've called it the Coronet instead of the Charger, it would be nice for them to do a redesign of the classic Chargers of either 1968 or 1969
I have said that, myself. I don't think most people remember the Coronet as fondly as we do, however. Most non-Mopar lovers would be hard-pressed to name a Mopar other than the Charger, Roadrunner, or Barracuda. The forthcoming 2 door version of the Charger is going to be called the Challenger. grumble Don't get me wrong, I love the fact that DCC is getting back into the RWD game again in style, but I wish they'd maintain some continuity in the name department. At least it's not as bad as what they did with the Charger/Challenger names in the 80's!
