Question:

Could my Dad press charges?

I've been talking to this guy... I'm 14 and he is 16. I am a freshman and he is a junior. Recently my mom took my phone and read all of my messages with him. He's talked about some kind of dirty stuff with me. My Dad said that even though he isn't 18 he can still press charges if he wants to. Is this true?

Answer:

Only if you guys are sending nude pictures. But talking dirty, no. Its not illegal.
there is no private criminal prosecution in the u.s. If by press charges you mean notify police, your father is able to notify the police of anything that he finds interesting. Perhaps you are asking if talking dirty is a crime. It is not. Actually having sex with a child would be of interest to the police.
Well yes it is a Federal violation to use profanity on the air waves. And today phone calls are broadcast. So tell your Dad to call the feds on him. I am sure they will make special time for your Dad to look into this. Not that it is illegal for him to talk to you that way. But that he used the wrong word or two and they were on the airwaves. That is a offence there.
No he can't press charges. There is no law that says you can't talk to a boy Lol hes not over 18 im pretty sure as long as its not 3 years or more its ok. he could press charges if you slept together because you're a minor and its illegal but its not illegal for you to be with this boy at all. I think he's just trying to scare you away from him by being a protective dad.
