Question:

CPU fan error pressing F2?

Hi. Every time i boot up my computer i get a message saying my CPU fan has failed, system shut down to prevent further damage.. press F2 to continue.when i press F2 it boots up just fine. i was wondering if its bad to continuously press F2 every time i boot my computer

Answer:

Change your CPU fan that cool the CPU. When heats up it reboots.
Hi, It could be bad if your fan is no longer working (not cooling the CPU). What you need to do is take the side panel off of your computer and look inside while the computer is powered on. You will see a fan about four inches across with the blades facing you. If the fan is not spinning shut down your computer and take it to a repair shop or look online for a replacement. Good luck, Cory.
There's a problem. Bad power supply? Bad motherboard? Bad fan? No way to tell you without actually taking the computer apart and testing it. It'll keep working as long as the fan starts when you press F2. But it will probably start a different cycle soon - you press F2, it restarts, you get the prompt, you press F2, it restarts, etc. All that will have been damaged is the power supply, motherboard or fan - what's already bad. It just won't come back to life by pressing F2 any more. It's a LOT cheaper to troubleshoot now, while it's still sort of working. Bring it to a real repair shop (not a retail store with a squad) and ask for an estimate.
