disc brakes for a mountian bike?!?

anyone have any good reviews or experiences coming from disc brakes? i just bought a bkie with only one disc brake in the front, and i was wondering if it was worth it to put in another dis brake in the back??! would i hae to rewire the whole back brake system? geez how much do they cost? i need some help people

Cable disk brakes start low as $30 - 40 to $200 , Hydro from $100 to $ 500 , I pay for disk Magura - front and rear $700 , and rim brakes Magura 22 evo for my touring bike $ 420 ( it was on sale ) . Instalation is eazy but if you do for first time ask for advice in bike shop or read owner manual .
Disc brakes are great for extreme conditions. For example if you do long descents your hands and wrists won't get as tired and you won't experience brake 'fade'. But unless you're really going to ride hard and often in crappy, muddy conditions, some decent v-brakes are simpler, lighter, the pads are cheaper, and the quality of braking is still very very good. Discs make sense on a pure downhill bike. But for an XC bike, IMO you don't need to incur the cost of changing that brake. Plus, it's much less critical for the rear brake to have ultimate braking power and fade resistance. If you want to boost performance look at upgrading your wheels! :-)
