Question:

Does a living room chair have to match the couch?

I have a chocolate brown couch but no chair. I haven't been able so far to find a chair the same color in my price range. I've found beige chairs that are affordable though.

Answer:

I used to have a gold couch which I paired with 2 chocolate brown, sueded chairs, so, no - as long as the colors of the furniture complement or contrast go with the carpet wall color - mix n/ match as much as you want. Beige, tan, ecru, gold, burnt orange all go well if you want to stick with earth tones, or, are going for a southwestern feel. If you want a more modern feel, you could combine the couch with chairs in shades of blue (aquas, powders, teals, etc.) or pinks, light purples, ivory or even black. You're the one who has to live there. Do what feels right for yourself.
Buy any color chairs you like [ except black or gray ], and get throw pillows in a print with both of the colors. Repeat both color in other accessories - drapes or blinds, lamps, vases or flowerpots, ornaments, candles and holders. A little gold [ brass ] in picture frames, etc, looks nice with both colors. Add some green plants. Wall Colors: rose peach lemon leaf green aqua turquoise caramel ivory
No they don't have to match and unless you buy them at the same time from the same manufacturer, chances are they won't anyway. Complimentary colors such as brown and beige can certainly be put together, and to tie them in you can maybe add some beige throw pillows on the brown couch.
I don't think they have to match. You can choose a patterned chair that has the same color and shades as your couch or you can buy pillows to tie in the colors of the couch and chair. That way it makes you feel like they match.
I say buy what you like - it is YOUR house, right? Heck, even if it doesn't match, you are the one who has to live with it! Who cares what color it is? Yes, I try not to have things that are too far out and weird, but hey, if it is comfy, I don't care what anyone thinks about my furniture. Yes, I would like to have everything that matches, but sometimes that just isn't the priority in the ol' budget, you know? Beige would go totally fine with chocolate brown - but if there is something else that you like, get it! I used to have an entire house furnished with hand-me-downs. I could afford to buy the house, but then couldn't afford to furnish it, so my friends all gave me a little something that they could spare. I got a couch and a chair (they happened to match) a coffee table and end table (which also happened to match) 3 assorted book shelves, a love seat, a tv, a tv stand, a desk, a dresser and assorted lamps and decorating stuff. I placed all these things in the places I thought were best and it looked really quite nice. Not one single new thing in the entire house and I ALWAYS got compliments on how cozy and homy my home was. People felt comfortable there. They didn't feel like they had to walk on eggshells because they might break some expensive thing. The bottom line is, decorate the way that makes you comfortable. Don't break the bank over it if you don't actually have the money. Just do what you can with what you have. It is just like the be yourself thing. Be yourself and don't worry about what other people think!!!
