I really would like to have one
Not if you desire the front wheels to be used for steering.
Some of the older ones did. But with that it is a rougher ride. Try a 1988 thru 2002 Chevy or GMC full size. Both the pickup and suburbans. I know my 1998 Jeep Cherokee 4x4 has a solid front axle. They are out there just have to look at some of the older models. Jon_Mac.Yes you can have a solid front axle in the front and still steer. And it being a 4x4. Look it up. Funny. Ford made for years pickup and big trucks with a solid front axle. Both Vinegar and Jon have now idea what they are talking abt. Stick with your day job guys. You have no idea what your saying
Not if you want to buy new. Older ones had solid axles but now the only SUV with a solid front axle is the Jeep Wrangler and it's not a 3/4 ton and rumour has it that in 2016 they will switch to IFS too. Solid axles are stronger, have fewer parts and the parts are easy and cheap to replace. People now a days seem to be more concerned about ride quality then they are about strength, durability and repair cost. They are even starting to make 3/4 and 1 ton pickup with IFS.
