If you're talking about the speed control resistor for regulating the blower motor. It's either found under the dash, not behind it or it's found at the blower motor which should be easy to get to under the hood.
Get studded snow tires. I don't like ridding in cold weather so I bought a trainer to put my bike on and train that way. They are inexpensive and a great way to stay in shape. I have seen a pretty good improvement over this past winter and can't wait until I get on the road and trails again and see how much it helped. You can also do ice skating, down hill or cross country skiing, sledding, or hiking. I also have been doing more weight lifting to tone my upper dody and abs.
