Question:

False fire alarm during the middle of the night.?

My fire alarms are electronically connected to the house. The alarm upstairs has been chirping, which I assume means the battery needs to be changed. This morning, I was awakened at 4:30 to the sound of all of the alarms going off. (At least that's the way it sounded.) it lasted for a good 30 seconds and then stopped. This is the second time this has happened in a month. What is causing this? Is it connected to the battery situation? Thanks.

Answer:

Wow, I never thought about that. Why orange? But, for question 2. it's just a precaution so you don't get shot by a trigger happy hunter.
it's a smart precaution, it also helps if you need emergency help, much easier to see and find you. bright orange totally contrasts the greens and browns of the wilderness, such bright colors are rare in nature and thus, catch your eye and makes your presence known to anyone, hunters, other hikers, emergency personnel, park rangers, ect. it's just best to have it then not have it and possibly regret it later.
Bright orange is a signature hunting color. If you are moving around people from a distance can tell that you arent an animal but indeed a person. Deer are color blind so the orange allows people to be seen by other hunter. I'd wear it if I were you.
it comes clear than a puddle of water lol
There is a very good scientific reason why the color orange is used not only for hunting safety, but also for clothing and equipment used for safety and high visibility survival gears. The US Navy and Coast Guard funded a research way back (I think in the'60's) to find out which color is most noticeable to the human eye and orange was what stood out from all other colors. The original purpose of the research was to make it easier to find down pilots or sailors stranded at sea, but it works for all environments. Something about the way our eyes perceive colors and the wavelength of that color seem to be most easily detected by our eyes. Sadly, there have been a few although rare case of people getting confused for game and getting shot. One of the Golden Rules of firearm safety is ALWAYS identify your target. But in the case of those accidental shooting, the shooter broke this rule in either their excitement and/or haste to bag a game. So, yeah, it's a good idea for you to wear orange on your hike.
