Question:

Finding a Transmission?

The engine blew in my 86 camaro 5 speed. I want to put a 92 5.7L camaro engine in it but they only came stock with automatic transmissions. Would I be able to Find a manual transmission to fit or possibly convert a transmission to work?

Answer:

I would think any manual transmission for that era should bolt up.that bellhousing bolt pattern has been around for years. Then all you need is to find a donor car to strip the foot pedals and clutch lines out of. Quite a bit of work to convert but it's in no way complicated. All the holes you need are in the auto car .just plugged off from factory.
The 5.7L engine, that you want to use, as you have stated, only came stock, with the automatic transmission, thoiugh, you could get a manual transmission, if you ordered it, it was an option, and, not many were ordered, this way. You should be able to find a manual transmission, for a 1992 5.5L engine. Your best bet, may be to scour the local junk/scrap yards, first. Also, ask the personal, in the office, cause they often have a link, with other junk/scrap yards, to see if they may have something, as well. You may want to try any of the auto parts stores, as well. They may be able to help you, or guide you, in the right direction, as well. One other place you may want to consider, is any of the local transmission repair shops. They may have information, or, other ideas, as to where you may be able to find the manual transmission, that you are looking for.
