Question:

ford expedition suspension?

I have a 99 expedition and I think something has gone bad with the suspension, the back end just drop and the leveling motor has not raised the rearend back to it‘s riding position. If this needs to be replace about how much will it cost?

Answer:

The most common cause for the problem that you are describing is that the airbag springs in the rear end have developed holes in them, and will no longer hold the compressed air required to keep them inflated. The last time I checked, getting them replaced runs approximately $3,000. However, this may not be the case. The rear ride height sensor may just need to be adjusted, or the air compressor relay is bad or the compressor itself is bad. A leak in the air lines is another possibility. There are very many possibilities and the best thing you can do is take your Expedition to a mechanic that has a very good background in repairing Ford pneumatic suspensions. Proper diagnosis is key. the last thing you want to do is spend several thousand bucks on new airbag springs and continue having the same problem. If you don't mind doing away with the airbag system altogether, you can have the airbag springs replaced with conventional coil springs for $800 - $1000 parts + labor.
