Question:

Tips for owning a dog on an upstairs apartment?

Hi! I've been living in a house for 7 years, and I have a 7 year old spanielMy ex husband just got laid off and I've had to move me and my two girls to an apartmentIts spacious enough for our dog, but our only concern is where to let him go to the bathroomWe plan on walking him twice a day so he can do most of his business thereBut when the girls are at school, and I'm at work, he's used to being able to use the doggy door to go outside to pee as neededNow, we have a balcony, but since it's upstairs, if he were to pee on it, the pee would drain down the the apartment below usDoes anyone have any tips on how to take care of this? Thank you!

Answer:

What about dog? I hear it's a delicacy in Vietnam!
shrimp with lime- corn on the cobb with lime juice and cayenne pepper rolled up in foil- you could also do tilapia with lemon in butter in a foil boat- you could do pork kabobs with red potatoes- or steak with teryiaki seasoning- cut in smaller pieces served over rice or yakisoba noodles
marinate some cubed sirlion in bottled italian dressing for a few hours, then string cubes on skewers with onion wedges, whole mushrooms, and squash chunksserve with rice and green salad, or your boys' favorite sides for a meal that's tasty and flavorful, but not too spicyworks well with chicken, too.
It's going to be very difficult to teach a dog to go inside when it's been going outside for several yearsMy only suggestion would be to cover the balcony floor and railings with the heavy duty plastic people use to insulate windowsAnother option would be to either take him to a doggie day care or maybe board him for a x number of hours at your vet's or a groomers, or pay someone to come in every three or four hours to take him outside Does he bark and annoy the other tenants? Even if you don't think he doesn't, I would go on the offensive and ask your landlord to walk by your apartment every so often and if they hear anything to let you know - the same with your neighbors on either side of you and on the floor below youThere are all sorts of preventative actions you can take, from getting an air puff collar to de-barking.
