I learned that the hard way by buying junk that doesn't last. I finally bought two really nice setups and have been happy with them for the past couple years. I have Shimano Curado and Shimano Citica reels. I have all BPS rods.
My suggestion is heat. Either a hair dryer or a grill lighter (the long kind). I must say your idea is great and very creative!

l see you put GOOD in your question. expect to pay a minimum of $150 for a minimally good combination. good tackle is not cheap. much more can be spent than this. it fill cast better, control hooked fish better and just generally make fishing better.
