Question:

Horse in an outdoor stall without a blanket? Starting to rain?

Hey all,Back to true questions LOLAnyway, My horse is currently at a horse show in an outdoor stallThe barn trailered her out there for me as school is more important right now (As I was told by my mother) xD So from my understanding they trailered her late morning, early afternoonI will not be able to make it out to the show until 5:30-6ishIt is going to rain (I can hear the thunder as I type) and I'm worried about her being naked in a stallCanada is not known for having warm rain until summer so if it is cold rain im a little worried :/Will she be ok until I get there? She has been turned out naked the past few days so thats how they shipped her. Thanks so much, feel free to ask questions if you need verifying )

Answer:

get a big A$ blacketlook for big A$% blanket at walmart
What is the air temperature? If it is not freezing, and she has a roof over her, she ought to be fineJust give her more hay for fuel and plenty of wateredit: :-) If it is chilly, then yes, put a light blanket onDo whatever will make you sleep betterShe will be fineGood luck at the show!
Remember horses' hair stands on end when it is cold so the warm air pocket can circulate and keep them warm so don't blanket unless it is well below 50 degrees (their most comfortable temperature)Make sure it is waterproof b/c wet fur is always coldAlso, aside from blanketing, feed her extra grass hay, which is the best way to keep her warmFree choice grass hay at night will do much better than any weight of blanket!
It depends on what kind of winter coat she grows, some horses grow thicker coats than others, i would go with either a medium (250-300 grams polly fill) or a heavy (350-400 grams) try to get a blanket that has +1200 denier it is basically how waterproof/windproof it is, and how tightly the shel is woven, make sure you measure your filly andget the right size i would buy big so that she can have some growing room
