How can I get gum off my shoes?
A lightning rod is installed to safely divert a lightning strike to the ground. It is a metal rod that is mounted up high on a building or structure. Copper wire is usually attached to the bottom of the rod and goes all the way down to the ground. Lightning is just static electricity being discharged. So, it tries to find the path of least resistance to ground.
Since you are not confident in your soldering abilities, I would suggest that you either replace the copper with 'plastic' pipe (CPVC) or else hire someone to solder the copper pipe. You could look into Pex. You can purchase all the connections you need at the hardware store. Beware of things you see on T.V. or on the internet! I am not a good solderer so I think I would hire a professional to do it. Good luck!
