Question:

How can I get in The Los Angeles Academy of Preforming Arts?

Does anyone know what I need to get in LAAPA. I am 14 years old and don't really play any instrument I am barley learning to play the guitar and I don't think I sing that bad. I am also trying to learn a little about acting and dancing. But I would really like to go to this school and it looks hard to get in, I know some kids learn to act and play instruments since they were like 4 but I didn't so does that put me in a disadvantage? what can I do so that I stand out when I apply?

Answer:

The sort of person who's going to be accepted is going to have already done a fair amount of acting, playing an instrument, singing and/or dancing. They want to see a real long-term interest in the performing (not preforming) arts and to be honest, it sounds like you've done almost nothing so far. And yes - that would put you at a huge disadvantage. I mean - be realistic. If they get applications from hundreds of kids who have been taking classes at acting, playing, singing and dancing for many years, why would they consider you? I'm sorry to be so negative, but you have to see it from the school's point of view.
Yes you are at a very definite disadvantage. Your best bet right now is to find their address or email address. These are almost always on their web site. Write them a short note asking for information including entrance requirements. Read your letter many times before sending. Do not rely on spell check. The Los Angeles Academy of Preforming Arts is wrong. It is Performing.
