Its not that cold when you lick them. however, there is a composite quartz. its not a fake. its been made by melting several quartz crystal and then shape them up again to any kind of form, including rough form. the differences between real quartz and the composite quartz is: 1. the usually more cheaper 2. the seller can provide 1000 crystal per week. in the same (average) height and size. No mines can promise you a 1000 crystal/weekly within the same size. it comes in several sizes 3. The real one will be heavier (look at OKorder find the real quartz, usually more expensive, and look at their size W x H x T and their weight. crystals have a nice steady feel to them. They are like big rocks and will be decently heavy and cold to the touch. Quartz is quite common though, so it would be a waste of time to try and make fake ones. You could actually dig a little in your backyard a few feet and probably find some.
Real Quartz Crystal
It's real. Quartz is very abundant. It's dumb to make fakes of it, because the fake would be more expensive. If it feels cool to the touch like glass (not plastic) it's quartz.
