Does any one know of any sites that explains how Alaskan Natives used the metal copper many years ago?I've tried searching, but I cannot find anything.Thank you so much!
Uses of Copper for an Alaskan Man (without any feminism offcourse in my answer...) 1) Melting Point is 1000 degree celcius approx - hence one of the easiest to melt and extract or cast 2) Copper Vessels conduct heat faster than Iron/steel etc hence good for cooking 3) Soft, so can be easily cast into hooks , and other hunting objects say spear tips etc.. Hey Stargrl, am not havin any definite sources..I'm stating the possible reasons for using copper and also what i had seen them doin when i visited Alaska a few yrs back... 4) Copper is the easiest metal that can be made into alloys , so its also useful in making other 'corrosion resistant' things..Since life is in general 'tough' in alaska,
They used a technique called cold hammering, they may have heated it, but copper is very soft, and does not need forging to be shaped. and copper was used for jewlery
there are Inuit, yet in addition Natives that stay at the same time up there. I choose i ought to bear in mind what Band they are with. I did aboriginal understanding (a required course in my line of artwork) with an area female from up there.
