How Do i Go about replacing the cv boot? Do I need any special tools to drop the axle?
Why Would You??the axle is about $50 If the Boot is worn then the axle is also worn. if you just tore the boot then realize this, Replacing the axle is cheaper than paying the labor to change the boot.you need snapring pliers as well asother tools, and a way to degrease the axle and repack the axle.very tedious. it just is better to replace the whole axle shaft assembly than take a chance that may leave you down when you need it most. they always fail when you are pushing them harder that normal.good luck
The hard part is getting the axle out. It's pretty much the same labor (actually a little more to replace the boot). If you take it to a shop it actually costs about the same. If the boot is ripped then you probably have grime and water entering the joint and it may be wearing out. I would replace the axle and save yourself a headache.
