Question:

How do you become a crane operator?

I am currently in the Air Force reserves as a heavy equipment operator. I really want to learn how to become a tower crane operator. How would I go about doing this? I live in CA.

Answer:

Hey Patrick, I was formerly a tower crane erector out of Washington DC. BUt, to yor question, I wold highly recommend you go to your town's Operator engineers Union Hall and inquire as to the qualifications and requirements to enroll in their apprenticeship program. Yes you will have to go thru the apprenticeship program. A tower crane operator is a coveted job among operators... You have to learn to hold your 'P for long periods as well as have great depth perception You coming out of the service, you should be given some preference Good luck
