Is it safe to use winter tires in the summer? What are the cons of doing this?
It isn't dangerous to use winter tires in summer, but due to the softer compounds used in winter tires, meant for gripping cold ice and snow on winter roads, the heat of summer roads will cause them to wear down and even disintegrate to some degree. A set of winter tires will last 4 winters if used normally, during winter months (Nov. 1 to May 1). If you put these tires on winter rims too, then you won't have to pay the fees for taking them off the rims, putting other tires on the same rims and balancing your tires each time. Once you have the winter tires on dedicated rims, all the tire shop has to do is change the wheels. If you leave your winter tires on your car throughout the summer, they may last one year. Usually 'all season radials' are good enough for average city winter roads, but if you travel on highways a lot, you will experience less slippage with a good winter tire.
