I have Schlage Lever Lock and the button you are supposed to push in to lock the door is stuck. It is stuck about halfway between lock and unlock. So it is pretty much just stuck about halfway in and out. It is this specific lock:

Are you doing mostly highway driving or not? Chains are great on icy and snow packed roads, however, they limit you speed, are often difficult to install, cause spot wear on your tires, and may not assist with braking if your wheels lockup. Studs don't limit speed, provide almost as good traction as chains, no need to install, and are great with anti-lock brakes. Siping does assist traction on ice and very wet pavement. Also, your state may have restrictions on when you can use chains and studded tires.
