how good is prolong oil additives?
Additives are not recommended. Ask any qualified mechanic. Good quality oils changed at regular intervals are all that is required. Do not go pouring krapola into your machine with the false illusion that you are making some miracle improvement. Your not!
They're allsnake oil" fixes. Oil additives promise great things, and one or two may actually improve lubrication, but in the long run they're a waste of money unless you're running the car on a race track all the time. I have over 170k miles on my car with nothing but regular old 10w30 motor oil (non-synthetic). I don't use or recommend oil additives to anyone, especially if they advertise on TV infomercials.
Why use Prolong? Prolong's technology doesn't just enhance motor oils, transmission fluids, gear oils, and other lubricants -- the formula actually treats and modifies the surface of the metal. Prolong AFMT? interacts with metal surfaces to create a protective buffer on the surface of the metal, right where it's needed most! The result, Prolong significantly reduces harmful friction and heat. Remember that today's natural and synthetic motor oils and transmission fluids are better than ever, but they do have their limitations. Prolong technology helps turn ordinary natural or synthetic oils into aSuper Lubricant". from site i just use stp oil treatment on oil change and stp gas treatment every fill up cheaper works good
I don't know if prolong is a name brand additive or just an additive. I do not advise using additives, however, If you are talking about something to give you better mileage and less wear on your engine I would say full synthetic and I still would never go longer between oil changes as although synthetic moisture and contaminants can still get in your oil. You maybe can go up to 5,000 miles the most I would personally recommend. If I am not answering the question just ignore it and I am sure you will get the correct answer.
