Question:

how hard is it to take a transmission out?

Chevrolet Duramax 2500 HD Allison Transmission

Answer:

NO. Definitely not. Get your brakes sorted before you engage back of car syndrome.
bY YOUR QUESTION YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG,FRONT DOES 80% OF THE BRAKING a good pressure should give a quick and decisive slowing.
well if your riding an old shovelhead with a drum rear brake then yup thats normal! Those bikes need an anchor to stop!
Research on line. Make sure you have a clean area that is well lit to work in. Also all the right tools. Bear in mind most of the work will take place underneath the car.
2 WD or 4x4? The 2 wheel drive, you drain the transmission, remove the drive shaft, rear cross member, speedo cable (if it has a speed sensor down there), wires, trans coolant lines to the front, remove the starter, lower bell housing guard, torque converter bolts, dip stick, shift linkage, slide it back and down on a transmission jack. 4x4 you add removing an extra drive shaft, and the transfer case along with everything hooked to it. Compared to removing the transmission on a modern front wheel drive car, it's a walk in the park; IF you have the tools.
