I have a 1997 Honda Accord and I was in an accident which involved me hitting and going up on the curb. The front drivers side wheel is bent inward at an angle, along with some damage to the front of the car, probably requiring a new bumper and new blinker/headlight. Also think I‘m going to need at least one new tire. The car has approximately 140,000 miles on it. I‘m really concerned about how much replacing or fixing the axle is going to costanyone know approximately how much it will run me, and does it seem reasonable to fix the car, or should I look into a new car altogether? Thanks in advance.
Bent Wheel Axle Repair Cost
What y said If you don't know how to solder, go to a good hardware storeor even a Big Boxand explain your problem. They can show you how to do this with compression fittings
Replace the axle. A rebuilt might cost about $100. Do not leave the bent one on the car. It is not safe and you cannot straighten it out.The labor may be another $100. The axle hub and brake rotor might need replacing as well. This is a job you want done right by folks with Honda experience.
Actually, it isn't the axle that is bent unless the wheel is wobbling also. The axle's outer CV joint allows it to conform to whatever the suspension and steering want it to do. The part that is probably bent or damaged is the radius rod (unless it is very different from my daughter's '93). Look for the rod heading backward from the steering knuckle just inward of the wheel on that side. Unless there is other weird damage, it should be worth repairing. Expect the bumper to be the expensive part.
Get another piece of 1/2 and a couple of couplings, and solder it back in.
