It depends on what you are growing and what you have done so far. My garden beds are composed of peat moss, vermiculite, and compost in equal amounts. In the past I have planted in 100% compost. I do not add anything else for fertilizer because the compost provides the needed nutrients. If using chemical fertilizers you want to be careful what kind you are using in addition to how often you fertilize. So, I would suggest either using an organic fertilizer (compost is one) or reading package information to be sure it works for the plants you are growing and to see how often to apply it.
