Question:

how to bleed brakes after changing master cylinder on a 20052 harley sportster?

im changing the fluid in my rear brake system on my 2005 harley sportster. how do i get the fluid back to my rear caliper

Answer:

I like to use vacuum bleeders to get the air out of the brake system, and the fresh fluid down to the caliper or wheel cylinder. You can rent vacuum pumps/bleeders at any local autozone if you dont personally own one. Its faster than gravity bleeding, so it will get you back on your Harley faster. The 2005 XL's use a DOT4 brake fluid, so make sure you dont get any of it on your paint or it will eat it pretty quickly.
fill the reservoir , Connect the bleed valve to a tube submerged in fluid .undo the nut, pump the lever do up the nut ,continue until all the air comes out do . this may take some time ! i hope you have some patients
All they are doing is getting all the air out. A master cylinder is nothing more than a syringe like the ones used in the hospitals and even there the doctor pushes out the air before injecting the person. You don't really need a bench job. Most vehicle braking systems are designed to self de-aerate. You can also open each one of the bleed plugs located at each one of the brake cylinders and bleed them one at a time. The only difference is that the shops will try to recover the liquid which can get to be expensive.
So you signed up for a job you know absolutely nothing about?nice.
