I have Windows XP Pro and Linux 10.04, with the install of Linux Grub 2 was installed as well over riding windows mbr. I want to use the windows boot loader and i've heard to use recovery console and fdisk /mbr. i want to know if this will make my linux os unusable or not?
Windows bootloaders don't like Linux, so opting for one of them will end up denying you access to your Linux partition (they don't recognize Linux filesystems and thus ignore them). I had no problems using GRUB to dual-boot XP Pro and Fedora a few years ago.
It will not show your Linux Partition, you will have to manually edit the Windows Bootloader through windows, but be careful you can render your system unbootable if you make a mistake
Grub should automatically detect Windows and any other loader without interfering, once u do a recovery of the windows master boot record, Grub will not longer exist. here are some links you can go to that might can help you goo.gl/DdcV goo.gl/QdDb goo.gl/omtp
