Question:

How to know if new motorcycle tire is defective?

and not a factory reject. it‘s on ebay and all the seller is saying is that it looks new. is there a published list of recalls on motorcycle tires?

Answer:

Unless your bike has a popular size tire, who is to say the one you get from the tire place, hasn't been sitting for a long while gathering dust? If you have questions about a tire and the seller can't give you answers, you will have to be the judge. If the price is cheap, figure you are buying a 5000 mile tire and if you get more, great if not, well at least you did not spend a fortune. And by the way, there are plenty of off brand tires (chen Shin and all the other Chinese tires that give lousy traction brand new).
Like new, looks new means it is *not* new. Rubber deteriorates in the presence of air. I lowsided a bike circa 1955. Highsided circa 1960. Pedal bikes. Hurt. By the time I started riding motorbikes I had figured out that falling is not fun and have basicly avoided it ever since. I am rather maniacal about collision avoidance. As a part of that, I like good rubber on the road. I may be riding a wimp cruiser, but I have Metzelers on it. Saving a few bucks on a tire is not worth risking my hide. Your Mileage May Vary.
wel if you have worries dont buy it really i wouldnt motorcycle tire dont last that long to start with three yrs if one doesnt ride bike much maybe dry rot i wouldnt risk my life and a bad tire would you you can order bike tires on line or buy from any bike shop that woul dbe smarter and last longer as well easiers on the skin too
