Question:

I have an 2004 honda civic sedan ex. Is it a good thing to add a cold air intake to the car?

Does adding a cold air intake to a automatic civic do any good for it so I won‘t lose my money?

Answer:

You are going to pay $200 for something that might give you 3-5 horsepower at the most. Nothing you will notice. By itself, it is a waste of money. I would not suggest it unless you plan on spending several thousand dollars upgrading the car. Keep in mind that is not a performance car. It was designed as a reliable, comfortable, cheap, fuel efficient family car. Don't let the Fast and the Furious fool you.
do not put a cold air intake in. just replace your factory filter with a high flow filter. when you add extra piping you are making the air travel at a longer distance, you are losing pressure inside of the piping creating a loss of horsepower. not to mention where exactly are you getting cold air from. it should be called a cooler air intake. use your money to do more positive things to your car. like royal purple oil, pulse plugs, kn air filter, helix power tower throttle body spacer (if available),and a good programmer. with that combination you will increase hp by about 15-30 and mpg 5-10. i have done this exact set up to my 2002 v6 firebird. the results were very noticeable. i added an exhaust for better air flow. but , i wouldn't suggest spending money on an exhaust system for a honda civic. maybe an axel back system.
I also have a 2003 Nissan 350Z and that i put in a funky air intake in my motor vehicle, what it does is tension cool air into the engine so the engine does not get to warm which aids the vehicle in having extra horsepower. they actually do artwork properly as long as you purchase a stable intake gadget. I even have extra 12-15 horse to my motor vehicle, it could no longer look like alot yet you do experience it!
I CAI would probably make some difference to the car but not enough for you to really notice. A CAI usually works well with other bolt-on accessories in sequence. So, dont get to taken in with claims that a CAI will give you crazy amounts of horsepower. But it will look pretty Bad-A$$ underneath the hood. Good luck! Miguel
