Question:

I just bought a chevy tracker, 1999 and the brake system leaks.?

The car is 30 minutes from my house and i want to drive it home. I heard the 1999 tracker comes with a dual braking system. Does that mean the other system is not affected by the one that is bad? Can i use the emrgency break as a back up to get home? I am nervous about the brakes giving out on me. Should I try that or stay away from doing it and tow the car instead? Thanks!

Answer:

?? Dual braking system?!! Ummm. I think someone's pulling your leg on this one. But to be fair On your brake's master cylinder, there are 2 valves that control the brakes one for the front, one for the back. If there is a leak in the fluid line that goes to the front brakes the rear will still hold pressure and stop the vehicle. Also, the emergency brakes work by a cable, not fluid pressure. The emergency brakes will also stop the vehicle, But you'll have to be smooth with the hand lever Think of it as performing surgery with an axe! It can be done but with pinpoint accuracy.
Tow it home. The dual braking system refers to the vehicle having an isolated system for the front and the rear. It is never a good idea to try and drive a vehicle that you know has bad brakes.
